About Color-blind palette check

Simulate a palette and flag colliding pairs

How to use

Build palettes that stay distinguishable across the common types of color vision deficiency.

Color-blind palette check

Simulating a palette

Each color is projected through protanopia, deuteranopia and tritanopia matrices. The result shows what a viewer with that deficiency is likely to distinguish.

Simulation is a screening step. It narrows the risks, but real users remain the final check.

Finding collisions

The tool compares every simulated pair in OKLCH and lists those below the threshold. These are the pairs that may merge in charts, legends and status badges.

Frequently asked questions

Which threshold should I use?
Start with 0.05. Lower it for dense charts where colors sit far apart, and raise it for small badges or thin lines.
Does this cover all color vision deficiencies?
It covers the three most common dichromatic types. Achromatopsia and rare variants are not modelled.
Can I fix a collision?
Change lightness, add a pattern or label, or pick a hue that stays distinct after simulation. Re-run the check after each edit.
